Converting your thesis from a PDF to an Archival PDF

  • In Acrobat Pro, with your thesis opened, click the ‘Advanced Tab’ in the top menu bar.
  • At the bottom of the drop-down box, click on ‘Preflight…’ and a new window will open.
  • Under the Profiles tab, click on the ‘PDF/A compliance’ arrow and a list will drop down underneath it.
  • Click on ‘Convert to PDF/A-1a(sRGB) and then click the button at the bottom that says ‘Analyze and Fix’.
  • This will begin the conversion process and could take a few minutes.  If it converts cleanly, you will see a green checkmark; if the conversion failed you will see a red x(s) displaying various error messages.

If your conversion fails when converting your document to PDF/A-1a, try converting  your document to PDF/A-1b.
