International Graduate Student Admission Requirements

Op5.09-2 International Graduate Students

Graduate Admission Requirements

Missouri State encourages applicants from around the world. To apply for admission, please follow these required steps:

  1. The International Student Application and Fee
We invite qualified international graduate student candidates to complete the "Graduate Student Application" and pay the required graduate application fee (non-refundable). We must receive the application and fee before we can begin processing.
  2. Admission Requirements
You must have completed a U.S. bachelor's degree or its equivalent from a recognized institution, with a 2.75 (U.S. scale) grade point average for the last 60 credit hours. Please refer to the Graduate Catalog for information about the minimum admission requirements. Individual programs may have additional requirements or higher standards for admission. To view individual program requirements, you may begin an application or refer to the Graduate Catalog.
  3. Proof of English Proficiency
Proof of your proficiency in English is required if your primary language is not English. Persons who have completed one or more years of university level study in the U.S. may be exempt at the discretion of the International Services Office. English proficiency global examination options and corresponding minimum scores may be found at this link: 2023-09-06 MSU UG and Grad cut scores for English Proficiency Tests.docx. If you are unable to document English proficiency, you should request an application to the Missouri State English Language Institute
  4. Graduate Required Tests
Some graduate programs may require the "Graduate Record Examination" (GRE) or the "Graduate Management Admission Test" (GMAT). Please refer to the Graduate Catalog for admission requirements for each individual graduate program. Official scores for the appropriate test must be on file prior to admission.

International Transfer Students from other U.S. Institutions
You must request transfer of your SEVIS record if you are currently in the U.S. as an international student and are planning to continue your education at Missouri State University. The process to submit this request is facilitated through the International Student and Scholar (ISSS) portal. We cannot provide an updated initial Form I-20 until the SEVIS transfer is confirmed.
