A graduate student must take 9 graduate hours to be full time for the fall and spring
semesters. Full time is considered 5 hours in summer.
Graduate certificates
Graduate certificates are 9-20 credit hour programs focusing on an expertise (i.e.
Graduate Certificate in Data Analytics) in a narrow subject area. Access the list of graduate certificates.
Applying for a graduate certificate in addition to your degree program requires that
you submit a graduate certificate application through My Missouri State. No application
fee is required nor will you be required to submit transcripts to graduate admissions.
However, since graduate certificates are standalone programs, it may be required to
submit or meet program-specific admission requirements. Go to the program's webpage
and review the admission requirements. Search for available graduate certificates.
Nothing. Current degree seeking graduate students are eligible to add a graduate certificate
at no additional cost.
No. You must apply and be admitted to a graduate certificate before finishing all
of the classes working toward the graduate certificate. You must also apply to graduate
with the graduate certificate. Click on the "Graduation Application and Status Review" link in the "Graduation & Commencement" card in your My Missouri State.
There are two options: Mixed Credit (general) and Senior Permission. Both options
allow you to take graduate-level classes while an undergraduate. For a full description
of each, please review the Undergraduate Students Taking Graduate Credit policy.
Mixed Credit (general) allows an undergraduate student to earn graduate credit. More
importantly, the graduate credit also works toward the degree requirements for the
undergraduate degree being pursued. It is two for one.
Senior Permission allows an undergraduate student to earn graduate credit; however,
the graduate credit cannot be applied toward meeting your undergraduate degree requirements.
Mixed Credit (general) is financial aid eligible because it also counts toward completing
your undergraduate degree requirements. Senior Permission is not financial aid eligible
because it does not work toward completing any degree requirements.
You must be a current Missouri State University, Evangel University or Southwest Baptist
(SBU) undergraduate student. (SBU is limited to the Master of Accountancy-Accelerated).
You must be a junior (60+ credit hours already earned).
You must have at least one more full semester as an undergraduate remaining.
Apply for the semester after you will graduate with your bachelor’s degree. For example,
if you graduate in spring 2026, you should apply for admission for the following summer
or fall 2026.
Requirements vary from program to program. Review the Graduate Catalog for your program or the online application. Many programs do have different admission
requirements for the accelerated program.
Apply for the semester after you will graduate with your bachelor’s degree. You will
complete a Mixed Credit form for each semester you intend to take graduate-level courses.
Do not register for the UG equivalent of the class! You are not holding a place for
yourself, but instead taking a seat from a student who is not an accelerated master’s
program student.
The following business day after taking the form to the office of the registrar, you
should be able to register for the graduate-level class.
Yes, each and every semester you intend to take graduate-level classes.
You will become a graduate student after graduating with your bachelor’s degree.
Contact GraduateAdmissions@MissouriState.edu and ask to have your application moved to the correct semester. Include full name,
date of birth, and request.
